ALBANY, NY (May 23, 2013) The Credit Union Association of New York’s 2013 Annual Meeting & Convention will feature three keynote speakers, led by nationally renowned film inspiration Coach Ken Carter, at the event being held on June 13-16 at The Sagamore Resort on Lake George.
Coach Ken Carter, a renowned speaker, author, educator and the inspiration for the film “Coach Carter” featuring Samuel L. Jackson will challenge attendees to reach beyond the average to true greatness during his presentation, “The Average Is Not Good Enough.”
In addition, the Annual Meeting & Convention will feature two other prominent keynote presenters, Mike Shenk, the Vice President of Economics & Statistics at the Credit Union National Association and Dr. Lance Secretan, an award-winning leadership speaker, professor and author. Mr. Shenk will share valuable insights on how shifts created by the recent fiscal crisis will impact credit unions throughout 2013 and Dr. Secretan will explore what makes a great leader, and how leaders inspire and change the world.

About Coach Ken Carter
In 1999, basketball coach Ken Carter made history at California’s Richmond High School by locking his undefeated team out of the gym for failing to honor their player contracts and academic requirements. Within two years, he single-handedly transformed the school and the team, motivating his players to pursue excellence both on and off the court. His story inspired the nation and was immortalized in the popular 2005 film “Coach Carter.”
Carter has been honored with numerous awards, including Harvard Club’s Distinguished Secondary Educator Award, NAACP’s Impact Citizen of the Year Award and several coaching and education awards. He has also been featured on numerous television programs and in People Magazine.
About Mike Schenk
With more than 30 years in the financial industry, Mike Schenk has distinguished himself as a leader in economic research and analysis. As CUNA’s VP of Economics & Statistics, he conducts economic research and supports CUNA’s public relations and lobbying efforts. His analyses regularly appear in trade publications, and he is a frequent contributor in financial media.
Before joining CUNA in 1992, Mike was director of research for Financial Research Corporation, where he conducted economic analyses, competitor evaluations and product-line planning for mutual fund companies. His background also includes six years as director of interest rate risk management at the Chicago-based U.S. League of Savings Institutions.
