Co-op Services Credit Union Holds 5th Annual Backpack Drive

LIVONIA, MI (July 22, 2013) -- Co-op Services Credit Union has launched its fifth annual Backpack Drive to run through Friday, August 16, 2013.  Partnering with Volunteers of America, 96.3 WDVD and Fox 2 Detroit, Co-op Services is collecting new backpacks, folders, notebooks, pens, scissors, pencils and other supplies at donation boxes in the credit union’s eight branch offices located throughout metro Detroit.

The donations will be distributed through Volunteers of America and its Operation Backpack initiative.

The credit union is also participating in the annual “Stuff-A-Bus” event from August 1 - 4, at Lakeside Mall in Sterling Heights and Northwood Shopping Center in Royal Oak.  Co-op Services staff and the credit union’s Rock Star mascot will be at Lakeside Mall during the event to accept school supply donations.

“By working with schools through our student credit unions and financial literacy programs, we understand how important these donations are and the number of families that need assistance,” said Jeremy Cybulski, youth and community development coordinator for Co-op Services Credit Union.  “These supplies can make such a positive difference in the lives of children, who otherwise would not have the essentials needed to start the school year.”

Co-op Services’ collection locations and detailed lists of recommended donations for different age categories are available on the credit union’s website at www.cscu.org.

Headquartered in Livonia, Co-op Services Credit Union has more than 50,000 members and maintains eight full-service branch offices in the Detroit metro area.  Members also have access to more than 3,000 shared branches and 28,000 ATMs nationwide.
