CNN Political Analyst and Commentator Begala to Keynote NAFCU’s 2013 Congressional Caucus, Sept. 8-11

WASHINGTON, DC (June 17, 2013) Credit union leaders attending the National Association of Federal Credit Unions’ (NAFCU) 2013 Congressional Caucus will hear CNN political analyst and commentator Paul Begala deliver the keynote, where he will provide insight on the mercurial political landscape. NAFCU’s Congressional Caucus will be held Sept. 8-11 at the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel in Washington, D.C. The deadline for early registration savings for association members and nonmembers is July 19.

Begala has a long history of winning campaigns, most notably the 1992 Clinton presidential election. Begala went on to serve as counselor to President Bill Clinton, where he helped define and defend the administration’s agenda, from the State of the Union Address to economic, domestic and international issues. Clinton has described Begala as “a witty dynamo from Sugar Land, Texas who brought energy, focus and credibility to our efforts.” He is also a columnist for Newsweek and The Daily Beast and is an affiliated professor of public policy at Georgetown University.

“The credit union industry continues to face challenges over regulation, the persistent threat to its tax exemption status, and uncertainty about housing finance reform,” said B. Dan Berger, NAFCU executive vice president of government affairs. “We’ve had enough. Now is the time to ‘Storm the Hill.’” Berger added, “We’re pleased to have Paul Begala as our keynote. He will offer our members keen observations about today’s political issues.”

Attendees will also get to hear from Berger in his first official address as NAFCU’s president and CEO. Also on the program are Carrie Hunt, NAFCU’s general counsel/vice president of regulatory affairs, Katherine Marisic, NAFCU’s director of political affairs, and Brad Thaler, NAFCU’s vice president of legislative affairs.

Additional conference highlights include:

  • Capitol Hill visits with hundreds of credit union volunteers and professionals educating their representatives on key industry issues such as regulatory relief, protecting the tax exemption and housing finance reform;
  • general sessions featuring a lineup of speakers from the Senate, House, NCUA and other federal agencies; and
  • networking events at popular Washington establishments.
