What:
Chip Filson is calling for credit unions to embrace their cooperative structure and to raise their voices about the process for making NCUA regulatory appointments. Just before the GAC’s opening session on Monday, Filson will make a major announcement to launch this initiative, as well as introduce an opportunity for credit union volunteers, members and professionals to become directly involved.
“Credit unions’ collective strength is based in the movement’s cooperative roots. We can reestablish these principles as the foundation for our regulatory system,” Filson said. “Each component of the credit union system is a creation of the member owners. It follows that the design of credit unions for the 21st Century should include a new vision and framework for a cooperative regulator.”
Who:
Chip Filson, Chairman of Callahan & Associates, and former Director, NCUA Office of Examination & Insurance and President of the Central Liquidity Facility, is well known for his encouragement for the movement’s cooperative principles. He believes credit unions can make a significant contribution to the most critical economic challenges facing the country. He shares the widespread concern to raise the National Credit Union Administration’s reputation and effectiveness by aligning regulatory decisions with cooperative principles.
Who Should Come:
Members of the media, credit union executives and volunteers, league communication directors, anyone wanting to advance the cooperative spirit of credit unions.
Where:
Washington Convention Center – Room 158A
Located on Street Level (Level 1), Building Entrance from L-Street
When:
Monday, February 25, 8:30 a.m. – 9 a.m.
Why:
Credit union member-owners, volunteers and industry professionals should know what the individuals seeking regulatory leadership positions believe, and how these candidates will support the system’s positive evolution. Today, this process is out of view and the intentions are unknown. This public campaign is designed to change the process.
