Chinese Credit Union Leaders Visit CU SoCal
CU SoCal Participates in Cultural Enrichment for Chinese Delegation
Brea, CA—As a part of Cal Poly Pomona’s Global Education Program, 20 credit union presidents from the Xinjiang Bankers Group in Urumqi, China visited the $700 million Credit Union of Southern California (CU SoCal) last month.
Sent by the Chinese government to take best practices from U.S. credit unions back to China, the financial leaders sought to learn firsthand about the American economy, the operational organization of U.S. credit unions, and their risk management efforts.
The Chinese delegation met with CU SoCal President/CEO Dave Gunderson and Senior Vice President Michelle Hunter and received tours of the credit union’s corporate office and Whittier branch.
Gunderson said, “We are pleased to partner with Cal Poly Pomona’s Global Education Program to share the philosophy, purpose, and benefits of a financial cooperative with the visiting delegation. We hope this visit gave these leaders insights of how CU SoCal’s unique not-for-profit model functions in today’s financial marketplace through its service and People Helping People philosophy.”
In addition to visiting CU SoCal during their 21-day visit, the Chinese delegation also visited Cal Poly Pomona Credit Union as well as other tourist locations in the Southern California region.
