In December 2012, Champion Credit Union issued a challenge grant to the community to help raise money for the Share the Warmth program, which helps to ensure people in the area have heat for the winter.
The credit union challenged the community to donate $10,000 to Mountain Projects Community Action Agency, who provides the heating assistance to residents in Haywood and Jackson counties. Champion agreed to match each donation made up to $10,000. Before December was over, that amount had been met. By the end of the challenge in February, the final amount raised was $30,087.84.
“The outpouring of support from the residents of this community and even other states was remarkable,” said Mike Clayton, President of Champion Credit Union. “Their willingness to help was such a blessing to so many.”
Champion Credit Union believes in supporting the communities they serve. “We have been here for 81 years because of this community. Our members, this community, they are our priorities,” said Clayton. “We can’t thank them enough for their generosity.”
