Belvoir Federal Supports Summer Reading Program on Fort Belvoir

WOODBRIDGE, VA (June 17, 2013) June began the Library Summer Reading Program on Fort Belvoir Army Installation offered to younger children through seniors in high school. Belvoir Federal Credit Union will support education and the military base by contributing two $100 gift certificates to the prizes.

The “Have a Book, Will Travel” Reading Program began June 15, 2013 and will end August 31, 2013. The program includes three age groups – birth to 4th grade, 5th to 6th grade, and 7th to 12th grade.

Each group has a different number of books that they are required to read. The 5th through 12th graders will select their books by spinning a globe which will dictate what style or type of book they must read. After a book is completed, the student will win a prize bag from the library on Fort Belvoir.

Katie Buxbaum, Library Technician of Van Noy Library on Fort Belvoir, who orchestrated the “Have a Book, Will Travel” Reading Program stated, “The summer reading program is a great way to keep kids engaged in learning and reading while away from school for a few months. Plus, when we encompass the program in an inviting manner that enriches the student’s experience, our hope is to keep them reading and while having fun at the same time.”
