The Black Hills Children’s Home in Rockerville needs Christmas gifts for each of their 63 children who are living under their care. Be a child’s Santa Claus and make sure that each child wakes up Christmas morning to a gift.
A special holiday event, “Highmark Giving Tree”, kicks off on Monday, November 19, to collect much needed Christmas gifts for children at the Black Hills Children’s Home. The public is invited to join us for scrumptious holiday treats and holiday carols sung by 7th and 8th graders from East Middle School. Stop by between 1:45 and 2:45 in the lobby of Highmark FCU’s main office at 725 5th Street in Rapid City to listen to the voices of this young choir. While you’re there, please pick up an ornament with a child’s name and wish list attached to it. Return the purchased gift, unwrapped, with the child’s name on it, no later than December 17. You get to keep the ornament as your keepsake for being that child’s Santa Claus. It’s that easy!
The Children’s Home Society helps the lives of more than 2,000 children annually in South Dakota. Most of the children are victims of severe physical abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect. “During this beautiful season, most of us give thanks for our homes and family”, explains Ella Shafer, Black Hills Children’s Home Development Officer. “Although a loving, forever family is likely the number one wish of each of these children, your gift will provide them with Christmas joy and memories.”
For the 3rd year, Highmark Federal Credit Union is partnering with the Black Hills Children’s Home as a convenient location to pick-up your ornament and drop off your Santa’s gift. “We are so pleased to be able to help the Black Hills Children’s Home. We have a heartfelt desire to insure each one of these special children receive a gift on Christmas morning” explained Highmark President, John A. Carlson. “This is a great opportunity for anyone to make a difference in the life of a child.”
