BCU Announces Successful Mid-Summer Fundraisers for the Creation of a Classroom Library for Local North Chicago School

VERNON HILLS, IL (July 31, 2013) -- Baxter Credit Union (BCU) raises nearly $4,000 from its annual “Jeans in June” and 50/50 raffle fundraisers. Each year, BCU donates the proceeds of the two fundraisers to create a classroom library for a school in one of the communities that it serves.

This year, BCU has selected a school in North Chicago as the recipient of the giving campaign and is partnering with Power Reading to donate books for the classroom library. The credit union has successfully exceeded donations reached in 2012, which had resulted in the distribution of 1,100 books to Nelson-Wilks-Herron Elementary school in Mountain Home, Arkansas.  BCU’s mid-summer fundraising efforts are organized through Companies That Care, an organization dedicated to community well-being and social sustainability.

Named to the Companies That Care Honor Roll for nine consecutive years, BCU is recognized for its ongoing support to charitable organizations such as The American Cancer Society, The March of Dimes, Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF), Riverside Foundation, Zacharias Sexual Abuse Center, Youth and Family Counseling, and many others. BCU donates more than $250,000 to various nonprofit organizations annually, with an additional $10,000 in charitable donations raised by BCU employees, who embrace a culture of giving back.

“When we see the importance and impact of employee volunteer efforts, as well as our financial support, it is hard not to want to continue to do as much as we can to keep making a difference,” says Tom Moore, Executive Vice President/CFO. “Giving back is a fundamental part of our organization.”

BCU actively promotes the idea that a credit union is far more than a place to transact financial business, but rather is an institution that can help to bring a community together by means of a “people helping people” philosophy. BCU’s Charitable Giving Committee plans to expand its giving throughout the remainder of the year and to further encourage employees to engage in vital community outreach efforts.
