Atlantic Financial Federal Credit Union President/CEO Retires

HUNT VALLEY, MD – Atlantic Financial Federal Credit Union (AFFCU) announces the retirement of President and CEO Rick Webb.

Webb has served as President and CEO just short of 20 years. Under his leadership, AFFCU has gained more than 150 select employer groups to AFFCU’s field of membership, including the very large entities of Dunbar, DLA Piper, and Transamerica. Since Webb took over in 1993, the credit union’s asset size more than doubled, as well as its membership. He has been integral in the execution of six successful credit union mergers and moved AFFCU to build its current fully-owned headquarters.

With an active involvement with Maryland & DC Credit Union Association (MDDCUA) serving on their Baltimore Chapter Board, and other national credit union trade groups, Webb has not only advocated AFFCU, but ultimately the credit union movement throughout his career influencing policy and strategic direction at the local, state, and national level.

“The credit union exists only to serve its members, who are also the owners of a credit union. I hope that I have served every member, whether directly or through my actions, as well as an owner would expect,” said Webb.

With a constant emphasis on the importance of serving members, one of the many initiatives Webb has supported includes shared branching, which allows members to use other credit unions to access their account. AFFCU was the first Baltimore-area credit union to be involved with this movement. AFFCU also participates in the CO-OP network, allowing members to use thousands of ATMs without imposed surcharges. Both of these services have now grown into a nationwide network through the support of additional credit unions.

Webb originally joined the credit union (then known as Baltimore Telephone Federal Credit Union) as a member through his employment at C&P Telephone Company/Bell Atlantic. He then volunteered to serve on the Supervisory Committee and Board of Directors. For 23 years, Webb was active on AFFCU’s Board, chairing multiple Board committees and positions including Board Chairman before taking over as President and CEO. For the last 19 years, he has been recognized as the face and voice of AFFCU.

During his tenure, AFFCU has received numerous awards a few to include Better Business Bureau’s 2007 Torch Award for Marketplace Excellence for demonstrating a long-standing commitment to the standards of trust in business, MDDCUA ‘s Philosophy in Action award in 2005 for AFFCU’s commitment to “people helping people” philosophy. In 2011, the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) awarded AFFCU with a Certificate of Excellence for giving back to its members.

Webb’s most recent accolades include SmartCEO Magazine’s CEO of the Year, Hunt Valley Business Forum’s 2011 Person of the Year, 2011 finalist in Corridor Magazine’s CEO of the Year, and included among SmartCEO’s Smart 100 for the last three years  for his leadership, strategic vision, and character in running the credit union.
