EL SEGUNDO, CA (May 12, 2013) In late April, rumors swirled that the Friends TV show might return for a reunion. While the rumors were shut down by NBC and Friends creator, Mart Kauffman, GoBankingRates was prompted to take a walk down nostalgia lane with a look at each character’s money management skills.

GoBankingRates editor, Amanda Garcia, stated, “Most fans of the series have had the age-old debate over who the 'Rachel' or 'Monica' within a group of friends is, but many have perhaps compared their financial lifestyles to characters on the show as well.”

The core Friends TV show cast members all have healthy net worths in the tens of millions, with Jennifer Aniston, who played Rachel Green, topping the scale at an estimated $150 million, according to TheRichest.com. But the characters they played were not always as financially secure or wise, and faced many money management dilemmas that felt familiar to audiences, from splitting the check to shopping for bargains.

"For over a decade, fans watched and grew up with the characters of Friends and found it easy to relate to their everyday problems and struggles,” says Ms. Garcia. “From the ‘Rachel haircut’ to coffee-shop hangouts, the show was a major trend-setter that influenced viewers' attitudes -- even towards how best to manage your money and lifestyle in your 20's and 30's.”

GoBankingRates looked at the income, spending habits and money management of each character in the Friends TV show cast to see if they were a good personal finance role model, or more of a cautionary tale.

• Rachel Green – Credit Card Charger

• Joey Tribbiani – Spendthrift

• Monica Geller – Bargain-hunter

• Chandler Bing – Big Saver

• Phoebe Buffay – Financially Free-Spirited

• Ross Geller – Naïve Money Manager
