Pontiac –The Holiday Extravaganza Parade committee is pleased to announce that WDIV meteorologist and reporter Andrew Humphrey, CBM, has been named grand marshal of the popular parade.
Humphrey, an Emmy award winning meteorologist, can be seen weekdays on Local 4 News Morning starting at 4:30 a.m. and on Local 4 News at Noon. He is pleased to receive the honor.
Humphrey loves working with young people and is the perfect fit for the parade honor, said Georgette Johnson, Holiday Extravaganza committee member and president/chief strategist for Master Plans & Strategies, Inc.
“He is very education-focused and community-oriented,” she said.
In addition to his work, Humphrey founded and serves as co-chair of the Digital Journalism Task Force of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), is president of the Detroit Chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists, primary exhibit advisor for the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History and was distance learning consultant for the Cranbrook Institute of Science.
“I am looking forward to seeing the people,” said Humphrey. “It will be heartwarming to see their smiling faces and cheerfulness as they observe the wonderful festivities of the parade.”
The Holiday Extravaganza Parade will kick off at 11 a.m. Dec. 3 and march through downtown Pontiac. It will feature dozens of floats, horse drawn wagons and carriages and music from local marching bands.
The 2012 Holiday Extravaganza Parade is presented by Genisys Credit Union and Michigan Works of Oakland County. Also provided will be a FREE, family-oriented event that features lots of children’s activities as part of the WinterFUN Festival at 8:30-10:30, right before the parade, include a petting farm, hot coco, Santa’s live reindeers, live ice carvings demonstrations by Oakland Community College, a Scavenger Hunt, horse drawn wagon rides, and the Children Art Center at 30 N. Saginaw Street, with face painters, special craft projects, puppet show, and so much more. Event parking is FREE. The event is a collaborative effort between the communities of Auburn Hills, Pontiac, Waterford and White Lake and coordinated by the non-profit, Greater Pontiac Host Committee.
