America’s Credit Unions and its PAC pledge nearly $4 million in communications for credit union champions

Newly established PAC is now the 4th largest; $82 average contribution per donor.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 7, 2024) — America’s Credit Unions and its Political Action Committee (PAC) pledged to spend $3.6 million in independent expenditures and member communications for credit union champions across the country to boost their candidacies ahead of the Nov. 5 general election. America’s Credit Unions is now the fourth largest PAC in candidate contributions in the country. The PAC is a testament to credit unions’ grassroots movement: the average contribution is $82 per donor per year, demonstrating widespread commitment to the industry’s future success through political advocacy.

“America’s Credit Unions is bipartisan in our political support. We are focused on helping candidates who understand and support credit unions, and work with us to help our members and their communities succeed,” said America’s Credit Unions President and CEO Jim Nussle. “As an advocacy organization, the best way to achieve our mission is for America’s Credit Unions to actively support candidates in a way that fosters a safe and affordable financial services option for all Americans through their local credit union.”

Voters in states like Arizona, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Oregon, and Pennsylvania will hear positive messages in support of candidates who have recognized the credit union difference with constituents and colleagues while supporting industry priorities like protecting interchange, combating the rise in fraud, and preserving credit unions’ federal income tax exemption. America’s Credit Unions worked hand-in-glove with league partners to help target messaging to credit union members.

Supported candidates and communications include:

  • Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT): A $1M independent expenditure in direct mail, digital ads, text messages and heismontana.comWatch the ad.

  • Rep. Zach Nunn (R-IA-03): Member communications in direct mail and digital ads
  • Rep. Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ-06): Member communications in direct mail and digital ads
  • Rep. Andrea Salinas (D-OR-06): Member communications in direct mail and digital ads
  • Rep. Angie Craig (D-MN-02): Member communications in direct mail and digital ads

America’s Credit Unions is committed now more than ever to have credit union champions win across the country as the 2025 tax policy debate heats up. Without the industry’s federal income tax exemption, credit unions would not be able to provide the affordable products and services more than 140 million Americans rely on.

As of September 2024, America’s Credit Unions and its PAC is the fourth largest in candidate giving and second largest PAC for a trade association, behind only the National Association of Realtors. America’s Credit Unions, a bipartisan organization, has a nearly 50/50 split of contributions to Democrats and Republicans.
