American News Icon Tom Brokaw and Award-Winning Personal Finance Journalist Jean Chatzky to Headline CUNA 2013 Governmental Affairs Conference

Washington, D.C . (October 24, 2012) – NBC News anchor and best-selling author Tom Brokaw and award-winning personal finance journalist and author Jean Chatzky are booked to headline the Credit Union National Association’s 2013 Governmental Affairs Conference, February 24-28 at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.

“GAC is all about making an impact so credit unions can be our members’ best financial partners,” said Bill Cheney, President and CEO of CUNA. “We are delighted to continue our tradition of bringing great speakers to the GAC stage. Tom Brokaw will share his unique insight into more than 50 years of American life. Jean Chatzky is a perfect fit with the credit union movement: she is all about empowering Americans to make strong, life-long financial choices.”

CUNA’s GAC is the credit union movement’s premier political event and its largest national conference, each year providing more than 4,000 credit union executives and board members an opportunity to hear influential leaders from Congress, the Administration and the federal regulatory agencies.  Capitol Hill visits, when attendees meet face-to-face with their members of Congress and staff to discuss issues that concern the credit union movement, will take place the afternoon of Wednesday, February 27, and the morning of Thursday, February 28. The GAC also offers a wide array of timely and educational breakout sessions, the industry’s largest exhibitor showcase, guest programs to tour Washington’s sights, and special entertainment including an opening concert and the closing Gala Reception and Dance. Additional speakers, session topics and entertainment will be announced in the weeks to come.

Tom Brokaw
Tom Brokaw has spent his entire distinguished journalism career with NBC News where he has covered more than 50 years of news, culture and politics. From Sixties counter culture and the assassination of Bobby Kennedy to Watergate to the Berlin wall to the 2008 campaign, Brokaw has been there to share the story with Americans. In 1998 Brokaw published, The Greatest Generation, one of the most popular non-fiction books of the 20th century. He followed that with five other books, including BOOM! Voices Of The Sixties and most recently, The Time Of Our Lives. He is also a popular essayist for publications ranging from The New York Times to Rolling Stone and a wide assortment of other periodicals and newspapers. Brokaw has won every major award in his craft, including Peabody, Duponts, Emmys and lifetime achievement recognition.

Jean Chatzky
An award-winning journalist and best-selling author, Jean Chatzky is the financial editor for NBC’s Today Show, a contributing editor for MORE magazine and a columnist for The New York Daily News. She blogs daily at JeanChatzky.com. She is the author of numerous books including her newest Money Rules: The Simple Path to Lifelong Security and the recent release Money 911: Your Most Pressing Money Questions Answered, Your Money Emergencies Solved, a New York Times best seller. Chatzky was honored by the Consumer Federation of America with the Betty Furness Consumer Media Service Award for her nearly two decades of pioneering personal finance education.
