American Eagle Federal Credit Union begins 2015 with new state charter and new name

EAST HARTFORD, CT (January 7, 2015) — American Eagle Federal Credit Union will celebrate its 80th year in business in January 2015, under a new state charter and a new name as American Eagle Financial Credit Union.
The Credit Union’s conversion from a federal to state-charter also resulted in expanding its field of membership to include 862,000 residents of New Haven County, CT. The newly expanded field of membership now encompasses 2.1 million residents or 58% of the state’s population, in Hartford, Middlesex, Tolland, and New Haven Counties in CT.

“Our expanded presence will create opportunities for continued growth and enable the residents of New Haven County to take advantage of American Eagle’s wide selection of financial products and services,” said Dean Marchessault, American Eagle FCU President & CEO. “This expansion will also allow us to enhance convenience and economies of scale to existing members throughout our field of membership,” added Marchessault.
The Credit Union will now be regulated by the State of Connecticut Department of Banking. American Eagle Financial Credit Union is the state’s largest community credit union with over 105,000 members and $1.4 billion in assets. It operates 13 retail banking offices in CT. The Credit Union was founded by employees of Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in January 1935 as the 80th federal credit union chartered in the United States. Member deposits are federally insured up to $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). For more information, visit americaneagle.org.
