Air Force Federal Credit Union selected as United States Air Force Credit Union of the Year for 2013

SAN ANTONIO, TX (August 28, 2014) — Air Force Federal Credit Union (Air Force FCU) was recognized as the 2013 United States Air Force Credit Union of the Year for the “less than $1 Billion in assets” category. The annual honor is awarded to the financial institution that goes above and beyond by providing the Air Force community and their families with superior financial education and customized services.

Air Force FCU Chairman Sam Farace and President/ CEO, Bob Glenn accepted the award at the Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC) Annual Conference in Dallas, TX on Tuesday, August 26, 2014. This is the second time the credit union has won credit union of the year, receiving it first in 1996.

“It is an incredible honor to be recognized by the Air Force as the credit union of the year,” Bob Glenn stated. “On behalf of our board, management and staff, we are very proud and humbled to be the recipient, as it shines a light on the efforts of the credit union to provide the best financial services and support to our military. This recognition underscores our excellence in achieving our mission to serve the members of the military and their families, and it is the highest compliment we can receive.”

In a statement by the Department of the Air Force, Air Force FCU showed that it “clearly demonstrated excellent customer service and responsiveness to the needs of the Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) community.”

Some of the programs the credit union was cited for include personal financial management skills training to over 4,000 airmen in 2013 and development and teaching of financial classes for the Wounded Warrior Project TRACK students.

The government shutdown of note in 2013 put a financial strain on many military and DoD families. The credit union quickly responded with bridge loans, deferred loan payments and advanced deposits of pay, giving relief to those affected in a timely manner.

Community support is part of the criteria that is taken into consideration for the award and many of the outreach programs were recognized. The credit union was commended for its partnership and support for the Airman Heritage Foundation, whose mission is dedicated to the proud heritage and service of the American Airman and support of the USAF Airman Heritage Museum.

Air Force FCU is headquartered in San Antonio, serving JBSA—Lackland.

Air Force FCU serves the diverse needs of over 40,000 members worldwide with a full array of financial services and the strength of more than $368 million in assets.  For additional details about Air Force FCU, visit www.airforcefcu.com.
