Kyle L. Markland commits to participate in Executive Challenge in support of Special Olympics Minnesota.
ST. PAUL, MINN. (Jan. 11, 2013) – On Friday, March 1, Affinity Plus President and CEO, Kyle L. Markland, will understand what it means to be “Freezin for a Reason” when he plunges into Lake Calhoun as a participant in the Executive Challenge. The Executive Challenge is a new event this year reserved for CEOs in conjunction with the Minneapolis Polar Bear Plunge, which is presented by Law Enforcement for Special Olympics Minnesota.
Affinity Plus has supported Special Olympics since 2003 by facilitating the donation of both cash and Participation Rewards points from members and employees. Members have the ability to redeem their Participation Rewards points, which are awarded for years of membership and various account activities, and donate their points to the charity of their choice including Special Olympics. Affinity Plus has experienced an increase of support each year, which can in part be attributed to the Polar Bear Plunge teams created by employees across the organization. This year Affinity Plus members and employees have created 10 teams and received more than $2,500 in donations for their teams. The first Polar Bear Plunge featuring Affinity Plus members and employees will be in White Bear Lake at Ramsey Beach on Sat., Jan. 26. “We are so honored to partner with Special Olympics Minnesota and we’re ready to cheer on our CEO as he takes the plunge! It’s not every day your CEO plunges into a frozen lake in his business suit,” states Dave Larson, Senior Vice President of Affinity Plus.
The first Polar Bear Plunge occurred in 1998 at Como Lake in St. Paul. For the past 16 years, it has continued to grow and support more than 7,100 athletes with special needs in Minnesota who participate in Special Olympics.
