Affinity Plus Announces 2013 Foundation Scholarship Winners

Five students were awarded a $5,000 scholarship for the 2013 – 2014 academic year

ST. PAUL, MN (April 5, 2013) – The Affinity Plus Foundation recently announced that five students were chosen as recipients of a $5,000 academic scholarship. The applicants included Freshman, Upperclassmen, Nontraditional and Graduate/Doctorate students who are members of Affinity Plus.

This year, the Affinity Plus Foundation received more than 300 applications for the scholarship. The recipients of the scholarship were chosen based on scholastic standing, extracurricular and volunteer activities, leadership, community involvement and a two-page essay in response to the question, “What makes you an outstanding candidate for an Affinity Plus Foundation scholarship?”. Congratulations to the five recipients of the 2013 Affinity Plus Foundation Academic Scholarship, who are each listed below:

  • Benjamin, Moorhead; Incoming Freshman
  • Rachel, Shoreview; Incoming Freshman
  • Joseph, Clear Lake; Upperclassman
  • Maggie, Pelican Rapids; Nontraditional
  • Danielle, Minneapolis; Graduate/Doctorate

“We are honored to be able to provide students with financial assistance to help make their academic dreams a reality,” stated Dave Larson, Affinity Plus Foundation Executive Director. “We are also humbled when we discover how they have already made a difference in the lives of others and how they plan to continue to change the lives of people in their local, national and global communities. We wish them continued success and extend our sincere congratulations.” In addition to receiving their scholarships, students are also invited to participate in the Foundation’s annual golf or fishing tournaments to share with members, employees, the Board of Directors, vendors and partners, what they hope to accomplish with the assistance of the scholarship.

Incorporated in 2000, the Affinity Plus Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of lives for people in Minnesota by providing them with financial literacy through sound personal financial education, understand and management. Since its inception, it has awarded $270,000 in scholarships for students to help them achieve their academic dreams.
