AMOCO Federal Credit Union reaches 100K members

TEXAS CITY, TX (January 25, 2023) — AMOCO Federal Credit Union, a member owned cooperative organization, celebrated its 85th anniversary in a big way when it reached a historic milestone of gaining 100,000 members in late December at its Texas City Branch – the sole and original branch location for the first 69 years.

The credit union’s 100K member, Jacobie Randle, who just happens to be one of the regular UPS delivery drivers for the Texas City Branch, walked in right before noon on December 29, and signed up to become “Mr. 100K” after being encouraged to join for over five years by one of his longtime mentors, Thomas Gibbons at UPS who also is a member, he said.

On January 23, Randle was presented with a commemorative gift basket filled with all sorts of goodies and a $100 gift card by representatives of AMOCO, including Texas City Branch Manager Michelle Brunkenhoeffer.

“It was so exciting for the original branch to be able to open the 100K member account and having the opportunity to meet Jacobie and hear his story,” Brunkenhoeffer said.

The 29-year-old, Texas City resident, who said he was ready to try AMOCO after banking with another major bank in the area – and to get Givens off his back, too – found humor in finding out that he was the 100K member and is excited about taking advantage of all the good things AMOCO has to offer, he said.

“Ever since I’ve joined, AMOCO has been nothing but supportive,” Randle said. “I wasn’t expecting all this fanfare, but I’m appreciative. The fact that they’re literally in my backyard is a plus and I’m glad that I finally came in to join.”

In January 2022, AMOCO boasted 95,313 members in the Greater Houston-Galveston metroplex, according to Chief Operating Officer Ashley Carner.

With over $1.3 billion in assets and 600-plus local sponsor companies and organizations, AMOCO has continued to raise the bar when it comes to member satisfaction and providing products and services that serve 2.5 million consumers not only in Galveston County, but across the United States.

“Reaching 100,000 members is an immense milestone for AMOCO,” CEO Shawn Bailey, said. “From our humble beginnings of just seven members, to now over 100K, it shows the impact that AMOCO has made by not only forming relationships with our members in the community, but with local businesses as well.”

By the summer of 2022, the push to reach the 100K milestone was within reach and became the goal of each employee at AMOCO, Marketing Specialist I, Debbie Adams, said.

From creative marketing campaigns and collaborating with community partners, AMOCO was able to reach its 100K membership goal right before the New Year.

“All of us at AMOCO worked together to achieve this goal,” Adams said. “It came down to the wire, but we did it!”
