2016 CUNA Bank Secrecy Act Conference slated for Nov. 13-16 in San Antonio

Credit Union National Association announced they will host this year’s CUNA Bank Secrecy Act Conference Nov. 13 to 16, 2016, in San Antonio. Presented in partnership with National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors, the conference will offer a comprehensive update on the newest developments in Bank Secrecy Act compliance.

“I’ve been involved in the conference and certification for many years now and I always look to them for their expertise and to share what’s happening in the BSA world,” said Tom Crapo, SVP, Vermont Federal Credit Union.

The conference will feature four days of expert-led sessions exploring a range of important BSA topics, including payment systems, the supervisory trail, beneficial owners, shell banks, and due diligence requirements.  Representatives from major regulatory bodies will also join the conference to provide updates and meet with attendees. Attendees will be able to earn or recertify their Bank Secrecy Act Compliance Specialist designation.

“When credit unions fail to stay current with BSA and other anti-money laundering laws, it can result in serious financial penalties and, worse, failure to detect and stop financial crime,” said Tracy Blaske, director of compliance education at CUNA. “This conference is a valuable opportunity for credit union professionals to catch up on the latest amendments to the law itself, learn about new developments in financial crime and acquire strategies for detection, protection, and compliance.”

CUNA will also host two workshops at the conference, one on detecting human trafficking and another on building a BSA/AML risk assessment, on Nov. 13 and Nov. 16, respectively.
