There are certain times of the year when you can expect some staff to be a bit more preoccupied with non-work activities. March Madness is one of them.

As talk of brackets and college rivalries fill your office halls, it is up to you to keep productivity alive without squashing team morale.

Calculations from Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc. found that an estimated 50 million Americans are participating in March Madness office pools, and “companies stand to lose at least $1.2 billion for every unproductive work hour during the first week of the tournament.” So yes, keeping up productivity in your business – despite distractions – is a must.

How can you boost your team’s productivity? Forbes contributor Jack Zenger says that ultimately it is up to you and me, the leaders. It is the leader of an organization who “creates a culture of continuous productivity improvement.”
