Creative ways you can make a difference even when money is tight

Most of us have organizations or causes that we love giving money to every year. In 2024, we all know money has been tighter than we’d like. Fortunately, we got some good news this week that inflation is back closer to the target rate and hopefully that’s foreshadowing great things to come. Even if you don’t have a lot of extra money to spare, there are plenty of ways you can give back…

Give your time: There are tons of organizations that are doing good that are always in need of volunteers. You might not have extra money this year, but most of us can find some time to spare. I’m sure a few places have already popped into your head, but if you’re curious about your options, put your zip code into the search bar on VolunteerMatch and you’ll have a list right in front of you.

Organize a drive in your community: You probably wouldn’t have to look too far to find a person or company that would be willing to donate food, clothing, or books. Local schools and libraries would be happy to have the books and shelters and food banks would love to have the food and clothing. You can probably fill your trunk by just asking the people in your favorites list.

Random acts of kindness: There are people all around of us who could use a simple gesture of caring. You may have an elderly neighbor in need of help shopping or an overgrown yard that they just can’t work on anymore. No matter what you do, just spread some positivity around.
