Ben stumbled upon his passion for the financial industry while studying psychology at the University of Minnesota. Like most students, he held an array of part-time jobs in an attempt to survive the chaos of college life and debt. It was his final employer as a student – a large, for-profit financial institution – that inspired him to switch gears from a career headed towards psychological research to one of advocacy for the credit union movement. It was when he came across the website for Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union and noticed their tagline, “Not For Profit. For People.” that he had found the light at the end of the tunnel.
Ben started at Affinity Plus nearly three years ago as a Member Advisor, working with members on everything from teller line transactions to loans, home financing, and title services. The direct connection with members, employee empowerment, and having the ability to do what is right through a cooperative business model, inspired Ben to pursue opportunities for further engagement.
Ben is currently a Business Development Specialist with Affinity Plus. He represents the credit union through events and activities that align with or help Affinity Plus achieve their mission of doing what’s right. He is committed to strengthening communities through cultivating long-lasting relationships with Affinity Plus’ Preferred Partners (SEGs). He serves as a financial educator for Affinity Plus through presentations, workshops, and blog posts, and believes he still has a ton to learn!
