Heritage Federal Credit Union announces new President & CEO

After 4 years of dedicated service as CEO of Heritage Federal Credit Union, David Milligan has decided to retire. After several months of preparation, David will officially step down on June 18, 2022. Tony Aylsworth, current President of Heritage, has accepted the position of President and CEO.

“I’m so happy that the board has chosen Tony as my successor. Tony and I share the same vision so I know that the work we started 4 years ago will continue. We have great teams and our company’s future is bright with his leadership,” says Milligan.

David joined Heritage in 2011 from Vectren Corporation where he was the Manager of Corporate Audit. During his time at Heritage, he served as Chief Risk Officer, Vice President of E-Services and Deposit Support Operations, and in 2018 he was promoted to his current role as CEO. David holds a master’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting Specialization from Indiana Wesleyan University, and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Southern Indiana.

David has been instrumental in fueling Heritage Federal’s growth over the past few years and through the Covid-19 pandemic. With the addition of $15 million in secondary capital, Heritage is prepared for future expansion into the newly approved markets and currently investing in new technologies for a digital transformation. David oversaw the acquisition of Elberfeld State Bank in 2020 with branch locations in Elberfeld, Haubstadt, and Vanderburgh County. Under his guidance, a new branch in Owensboro, KY, will open as a direct result of the recently granted expansion of Heritage’s Field of Membership. This expansion increases the counties Heritage serves from five to twenty-seven throughout Indiana, Kentucky, and Illinois.

David’s passion also lies in serving the local community with his championing of the United Way $10,000 give back and his support of Heritage Federal’s community involvement and support of local non-profit organizations.

“Under David's leadership, Heritage has realized significant growth. We are proud of the positive impact David has made on the members, employees, and community. On behalf of the Board of Directors, we are thrilled to announce Tony as our President and CEO. The transition could not have gone any smoother. We look forward to continuing the growth throughout the region,” says Tim O'Brien, Board Chairman.

Tony came to the credit union in May 2018 when he was hired as the Chief Risk Officer. He has over 29 years of financial institution experience and, before coming to the credit union, held multiple positions including Director of Regulatory Risk Management, and Director of Compliance as well as owning his own general practice law office.

“David and I have spent the last two years conducting transition planning. I am grateful for David’s mentorship and the support of the board. We have an exciting future ahead of us for our members,” says Aylsworth.

Tony has spent most of his life in southern Indiana, graduating from Boonville High School and USI. Tony holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of Louisville School of Law in Louisville, KY, a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, IN, and is a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO.

Tony serves as a board member on the Warrick County Economic Development Advisory Council/Warrick County Redevelopment Commission and is also a board member on the Dick and Louise Johnson Charitable Foundation in Boonville, IN.
