Credit Union of Texas donates $1.5 million to Trusted World to fight against situational poverty in North Texas

New partnership allows Trusted World to increase resources and expand its reach to serve even more Dallas Fort Worth-area residents

As part of its ongoing commitment to the communities it serves, Credit Union of Texas (CUTX) donated $1.5 million to Trusted World, a nonprofit organization focused on eliminating situational poverty in North Texas. The new partnership and donation allow Trusted World to expand its team to meet more North Texans’ needs, purchase additional delivery vehicles, and meet fuel costs to deliver clothing, food, and personal care items across the region.

The partnership also includes a new Trusted World van purchased by CUTX and dedicated volunteer hours from CUTX team members. Additionally, furthering CUTX’s commitment to Trusted World, CEO Eric Pointer will serve on Trusted World’s board of directors.

“In all that we do, Credit Union of Texas strives to positively impact people’s lives in the communities we serve,” said Eric Pointer. “Our team was drawn to Trusted World’s proven ability to serve the needs of those in crisis and to make an immediate difference in their lives. Our partnership with Trusted World will allow us to help meet the ongoing challenge of situational poverty in our region head-on.”

Founded seven years ago, Trusted World partners with more than 550 organizations across North Texas to address the immediate needs of individuals and families suffering from situational poverty, often due to sudden life events like job loss, illness, divorce or natural disasters. In 2021, Trusted World and its partner organizations, including schools, law enforcement agencies and nonprofits, provided resources to over 10,000 people across six counties in North Texas, with $1.3 million of resources put back into the community. CUTX discovered Trusted World and the opportunity for a potential partnership after a recommendation from a CUTX board member, who also serves on Trusted World’s board. After learning more about the organization and its mission aligned to CUTX’s commitment to serve its communities, the two organizations established a partnership this year.

Working with its partners, who are often in direct contact with individuals and families challenged with situational poverty, allows Trusted World to act quickly and serve their needs more effectively. After identifying a need, the partner organization completes and submits a form for supplies that the Trusted World team fulfills and delivers to the partner organization, ensuring privacy for each recipient. Submissions are personalized to each family and consider their food, personal items and clothing needs, including specific gender and size requirements.

As part of its partnership, CUTX will also provide donation bins at all branch locations, allowing members to contribute clothing directly to Trusted World. CUTX branch managers will have the ability to order resources from Trusted World for their members experiencing situational poverty.

“Our partnership with Credit Union of Texas is instrumental in carrying out our mission to even more residents in need throughout North Texas,” said Founder and CEO of Trusted World, Michael Garrett. “This donation marks our largest to date that provides our team with the necessary resources for greater internal growth and even more widespread external community impact.”

With plans to expand its services to East Texas in partnership with CUTX, Trusted World also hopes to replicate its efforts in all major markets throughout the United States.
