DCUC was pleased to host Angela Caban and Lila Quintiliani from Military Saves as they virtually presented six defense credit unions with the Military Saves Designation of Savings Excellence. The Designation of Savings Excellence is an honor reserved for financial institutions participating in Military Saves that serve the military community and strive to motivate their communities to build wealth and reduce debt. The six credit unions honored were Air Force Federal Credit Union, Freedom Federal Credit Union, Navy Federal Credit Union, New Horizons Credit Union, PenFed Credit Union, and Travis Credit Union.
Each of these credit unions went above and beyond in serving their military members and communities this year during Military Saves Month. Military Saves Month, held in April, is an annual opportunity for the entire military community to assess their savings status and make a plan to start or increase saving. The month is also a great time for organizations who support the military to encourage good savings habits. The honored credit unions provided resources to help their members learn best savings practices and offered opportunities to learn through virtual webinars. In this time of intense uncertainty, these credit unions provided important resources and support to their communities.
During the video ceremony, Military Saves Director Angela Caban recognized each credit union for their individual achievements.
“The COVID-19 pandemic is an unfortunate situation that is currently impacting military families and their finances. The timing of Military Saves Month has helped to spearhead the conversation around saving during a national crisis and help service members and their families take action toward their savings plan,” said Caban “The installations, organizations, financial institutions, and supporters awarded went above and beyond to encourage and support the military community to save.”
DCUC President/CEO Tony Hernandez joined the video call to congratulate this year’s winning credit unions.
“We’re always proud of credit unions who serve our military as we know they have servicemembers’ best interest at the heart of everything they do,” stated Hernandez. “This year was even more special as it was not only a shift from one week to a full month of Military Saves, but it also was during one of the biggest disruptions we’ve ever had to our industry and our daily lives.”
