NorthPark Community CU is paying it forward to residents of this area which is just north of Indianapolis. Squads of staff members are visiting area gas stations and providing $10 to each customer, as well as information on other ways the credit union is able to lend a helping hand during these trying times. The credit union is using the hashtag #BetterInBoone on social media for this project.
In the first two weeks of this initiative, NorthPark Community CUgave over $2,000 to more than 200 people. In addition, they are offering a chance for one lucky winner to win free gas for a year ($2,500 value) and they are encouraging their community to take advantage of the credit union’s guaranteed auto refinance that is saving members thousands of dollars!
“The kindness of so many was prevalent as ‘air hugs’ were given and so many smiles,” said CEO Carma Parrish. “Several people even declined to accept the money and asked that the credit union give it to someone in more need. The love for their neighbors was touching. We witnessed a real need by people to just know that others care, more so than they needed the monetary gift itself.”
The gas station project takes place throughout July. The credit union is planning additional community outreach efforts for the remainder of the year.
