DCUC Kicks-off Its Golden Anniversary Conference at The Greenbrier

WHITE SULFUR SPRINGS, WV (August 13, 2013) -- The historic charm and legacy of The Greenbrier Hotel, nestled approximately 250 miles southwest of Washington D.C., provided a memorable setting today for members of the Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC) as they kicked-off their golden anniversary conference.

Attracting the largest number of participants in recent years—some 477 attendees, Hall of Honor Inductees and Department of Defense representatives—and with Arty Arteaga, DCUC President/CEO as Master of Ceremonies, the conference featured opening-day addresses by a host of dignitaries including The Honorable Michael Fryzel, Board Member of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA); Bill Cheney, President/CEO of Credit Union National Association (CUNA); Lieutenant General Kevin Byrnes, (R); and keynoter, Ernest Gregory, former Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army, who delighted the attendees with his views on values and service as the keys to success.

Dan Berger, President/CEO of the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU); Mary Martha Fortney, President/CEO of the National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors (NASCUS) and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, Peter Lemon are among the other speakers scheduled to appear at the podium.

In addition to observing the 50th anniversary of DCUC, the gathering also marked the 20th anniversary of the Vice Admiral Vincent Lascara Golf Tournament held on Sunday prior to the start of the conference. The tourney attracted its largest-ever field of players, 104 golfers, including a foursome of Lascara's sons and grandsons captained by Brett Lascara, a PGA-rated golfer.

Monies raised by the Lascara Golf Tournament as well as the generous member support of a silent auction and raffles conducted during the four-day gathering will be contributed to the National Intrepid Center of Excellence Satellite Centers, serving troops suffering the effects of traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress and related injuries.

Yesterday's agenda saw the opening of the DCUC Grand Showcase of Vendors and meetings with representatives from each branch of the military.

DCUC's conference runs through Noon on Thursday.
