RALEIGH, NC (July 3, 2013) State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) was recently honored with the statewide Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award in recognition of its support and funding for three SECU Family House facilities in North Carolina. SECU received the first place Award at the 78th Annual Meeting of the North Carolina Credit Union League.
The Dora Maxwell Award recognizes and promotes credit unions’ social responsibility efforts. SECU members via the SECU Foundation, partnered with North Carolina regional hospitals and medical centers, providing support and a $2 million challenge grant each for SECU Family House facilities in Chapel Hill, Winston-Salem, and Wilmington, NC. Family Houses provide safe, affordable accommodations and caring support in a home-like setting for families and caregivers of critically ill adult patients receiving treatment at affiliated hospitals and medical centers. SECU fundraisers such as annual golf tournaments, in-kind gifts, and “wish list” donations also help Family Houses extend North Carolina hospitality to patients and guests.
Sandra Jones, SECU Senior Vice President of Member Communications was on hand to accept the award. Jones comments, “Hospitality House services are becoming a vital extension of healthcare. SECU members’ support for these projects helps fill a critical gap for affordable accommodations, making a positive impact on the social and economic welfare of patients, their families, and North Carolina communities.”
