CU Members Mortgage 2013 National Mortgage Lending Conference Reaches Record Number of Attendees

DALLAS, TX (June 10, 2013) A record number of attendees plan to “dive deep” into today’s mortgage lending issues at CU Members Mortgage’s 16th annual lending conference July 15-16, 2013, at the Omni Hotel in Dallas, Texas, with a dinner event hosted at the Dallas World Aquarium. With the theme “Diving Deep: A Quest for Mortgage Success”, credit union professionals from across the country will experience the two-day event’s expert speakers, breakout sessions, and networking opportunities – all helping them better prepare for an ever-changing mortgage market.

According to CU Members Mortgage Senior Vice President Linda Clampitt, a few reasons for the significant uptick in attendance can be attributed to the growing need to be more informed and the desire to be better positioned in the community to serve their home-buying members and earn income.

“It’s become critical for everyone involved to understand the changes in the mortgage lending industry and how to be prepared for what’s ahead,” Clampitt says. “At CU Members, it is our mission to ensure that our credit union partners, and all credit unions for that matter, succeed in mortgage lending.  We feel our conference, addressing today’s mortgage lending issues and best practices with our highly-experienced staff and impressive speaker line-up, is key to helping them continue to increase their volume and focus on what can make them even more efficient.”

CU Members Mortgage and attendees will dive into lending with a group of mortgage experts to discover lending treasures. Sessions will cover the latest in regulation, new servicing requirements, as well as a variety of other pertinent mortgage topics. The conference’s keynote speaker will be Olympic Gold Medalist Nikki Stone sharing her journey surpassing all odds to achieve success. Conference speakers include:

  • Nikki Stone became America’s first-ever Olympic Champion in the sport of inverted aerial skiing. What made her performance at the 1998 Olympic Winter Games in Nagano, Japan so unbelievable, was the fact that less than two years earlier, a chronic spinal injury prevented her from standing, much less walking or skiing off a 12 foot tall snow jump that launches aerialists 50 feet into the air. Nikki will share her story of surpassing the odds and taking home the gold despite being told again and again it wasn’t possible.
  • Ben Rogers is the research director for Filene Research Institute.  He has served as the editor of The CEO Report and chairman of the National Directors’ Convention.  Today his responsibilities include managing and editing a large pipeline of economic, market, and policy research related to the consumer finance industry. Ben will share his insight into changing your mortgage approach for a changing population.
  • Tracy Ashfield is President of Ashfield and Associates, a consulting and training firm that assists credit unions with mortgage lending strategy, development, policies, product design, training and strategic planning. Tracy also works with the NCUA and NASCUS to provide training and education on residential mortgage lending for examiners and regulators. Tracy will be sharing information in how to be prepared for a mortgage audit including structuring a real estate policy, what reports and data to have ready, and how to support your methodology.
  • Dr. Jim Gaines, who is back by popular demand, is a research economist from Texas A&M University and will share an entertaining edge on the latest economic news.
  • Best Practices Panel will feature credit union executives from across the country to share their best practices in mortgage lending bringing great success to their credit union.
  • Bruce S. Wilkinson, CSP, will push you to your service best with a passionate look into service success. He is a leadership/communication/culture implementation specialist, professional motivational keynote speaker and trainer. Wilkinson reinforces personalized messages with humor, passion, enthusiasm, and authenticity.
  • Blaine Rada, CMG MI’s Customer Training Manager, will discuss growing your purchase market with a focus on what it means to be a purchase market specialist.
