OnPoint Community Credit Union Names Educators of the Year

Barbara Nasewytewa and Francesca Morrison will each have their mortgages paid for one school year

PORTLAND, OR (May 22, 2013) OnPoint Community Credit Union today announced that Barbara Nasewytewa was named 2013 K-8 Educator of the Year and Francesca Morrison was named 2013 9-12 Educator of the Year. As the Educator of the Year recipients, OnPoint Community Credit Union will pay each of their mortgages for one school year and donate $1000 to their respective schools for resources and supplies.

The annual OnPoint Prize for Excellence in Education recognizes exceptional teachers throughout Oregon and southwest Washington for their ability to encourage creativity, inspire and positively impact their students. Every year hundreds of teachers are nominated by their peers, students, parents and communities for the OnPoint Prize.

K-8 Educator of the Year

Brookwood Elementary School, Hillsboro, OR

5th Grade

Nasewytewa was recognized for her positive impact on students, dedication to school wide initiatives such as Camp Invention summer science camp and Positive Behavior Support System, as well as her ongoing collaboration with peers. Nasewytewa will receive her mortgage paid for one school year by OnPoint Community Credit Union, plus $1,000 for her school to be used for resources and supplies.

9-12 Educator of the Year

Francesca Morrison

McMinnville High School, McMinnville, OR

9th-12th Economics

Morrison was recognized for development of engaging financial literacy lessons including the Entrepreneur Marketplace, development of “An Interview with History” collection of interviews on wartime experiences, and her support of Special Olympics and Project Unity. Morrison will receive her mortgage paid for one school year by OnPoint Community Credit Union, plus $1,000 for her school to be used for resources and supplies.

Robin Davies, 1st grade teacher at Farmington View Elementary School in Hillsboro, OR was named K-8 Finalist and was awarded $500 for herself and $500 for her school for resources and supplies.

Jennifer Johnson, 9-12th grade English and AVID teacher at Skyview High School in Vancouver, WA was named 9-12Finalist and was awarded $500 for herself and $500 for her school for resources and supplies.
