HOPKINS, SC (May 16, 2013) Tari Tucker of Lower Richland High School has been named the Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union 2013 Youth Financial Educator of the Year. Palmetto Citizens works with many local educators to provide materials, resources and speakers as they teach their students about important financial topics. This award recognizes the educator who goes above and beyond to bring financial education to their classroom.
Ms. Tucker teaches the students in her Financial Fitness classes about a variety of financial topics to help them develop into responsible savers and spenders. Ms. Tucker also utilizes the free High School Financial Planning Program offered through Palmetto Citizens, as well as a variety of online training materials, games and guest speakers.
"Financial education is important to my students because it helps to set the foundation for making sound financial decisions,” Ms. Tucker noted. “They graduate with the knowledge of how to manage money and credit successfully, and are better equipped to avoid financial pitfalls that many young people encounter."
As the Palmetto Citizens Youth Financial Educator of the Year, Ms. Tucker received an award and $1,000 cash prize. She will also be forwarded on for consideration for the statewide South Carolina Credit Union League Financial Educator of the Year award.
