Oklahoma Credit Unions Vote Yes on League Consolidation

Cornerstone Credit Union League becomes Official July 1

NORMAN, OK (May 14, 2013) Member credit unions of the Credit Union Association of Oklahoma (CUAOK) have overwhelmingly (49 vs. 10) voted in favor of a single cooperative organization, the Cornerstone Credit Union League. Oklahoma credit union delegates cast their favorable votes this afternoon during CUAOK’s special member business meeting in Norman, Okla.

Member credit unions of the Arkansas and Texas credit union league have already voted in favor of the measure, which means the new organization will become official July 1.

“Given the outcome of today’s vote, it’s quite clear that Oklahoma credit unions are progressive and forward-focused,” says CUAOK President and CEO Gary Jones. “I’m very excited to have the voting behind us because now we can focus on building the Cornerstone Credit Union League.”

“This is truly a momentous occasion,” adds Gina Wilson, CUAOK board chair. “We’ve been discussing and working toward this goal since last summer and it’s wonderful to see our efforts come to fruition.”

While the new organization will not become effective until July 1, the initial board of directors will be meeting prior to July 1 to help ensure a smooth transition.
