LAKE FOREST, CA (May 10, 2013) Eagle Community Credit Union is supporting the 21st annual National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive on Saturday, May 11th. This is the fifth year that Eagle Community CU has partnered with CO-OP Financial Services to sponsor and provide over 1 million blue food bags for the mail carriers to distribute in the local Santa Ana Postal district that serves most of Orange County, CA.
The donated bags help promote the food drive and increase donations for the nation’s largest one-day food drive which is Saturday, May 11, 2013. In 2012, more than 1.4 million pounds of food were collected in Orange County, making it the second largest collection on record.
Paula Miller, the NALC Region One Food Drive Coordinator says, “We literally could not do what we do for the food drive without the support and help from organizations like Eagle and CO-OP. Their generous donation of bags helps bring in more food and ultimately puts more food on the table for people in need.”
Eagle Community Credit Union and CO-OP’s backing for the drive doesn’t end with the bags. More than half of the credit union’s staff will volunteer at five local post offices to unload and sort incoming donations again this year.
The Largest One-Day Food Drive
“Stamp Out Hunger,” the Letter Carriers’ Food Drive, is the largest one-day food drive in the nation and is held on the second Saturday of May. In the 21 years since the drive began, Letter Carriers have collected more than 1 billion pounds of food nationwide.
