WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Three credit union leaders from Indiana have been inducted into the Credit Union House Hall of Leaders. They are among 22 individuals nationwide who were honored by Credit Union House LLC for their significant contributions to the credit union business. The inductions were made recently, during CUNA’s Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C.
Loretta Burd who is recently retired CEO of Centra CU in Columbus, Ron Collier who is CEO of Indiana Members CU in Indianapolis, and John McKenzie who is president of the Indiana Credit Union League represent Indiana as inductees. Their names will be permanently displayed at Credit Union House, an elegant, federal-style townhome on Capitol Hill that symbolizes the strength and permanence of the credit union movement. It is a host location for many events for Members of Congress and other leaders in the nation’s capital. In its sixth year, the Credit Union House Hall of Leaders provides lasting recognition for credit union leaders whose commitment has made a significant impact on the credit union movement at the local, state, or national level.
About Indiana’s Inductees
Loretta Burd retired in December 2012 after a 47-year career with her credit union which serves more than 126,000 members in central and southern Indiana as well as locations in Jamestown, NY and Whitakers, NC. She has been active in the credit union industry at the state and nation levels serving as a member of the Indiana League Governmental Affairs Committee, Vice Chair of the Credit Union Centers Board of Directors and Chair of the Indiana Corporate Federal Credit Union. In 1996, she was appointed to the Board of Directors of CUNA Mutual Group and served as Board Chair for six years, the longest serving chair in the company’s history. She has also served on the board of directors for the Indiana Department of Financial Institutions. She has also received the Sagamore of the Wabash, the highest honor the governor of Indiana can bestow on a citizen. Professional awards include being named by her peers in 1990 as one of the 100 Most Admired CEOs in the credit union industry, being inducted into the Indiana Credit Union Hall of Fame and receiving the Indiana League’s Professional Achievement Award.
Ron Collier has been with his credit union since 1985 and has been involved in countless initiatives at his credit union which serves central Indiana through 23 locations. Under Collier’s leadership, the credit union has received several state and national awards for service to the community and is a strong supporter of Backpack Attack and other programs to help disadvantaged students get the most from their educational opportunities. He is a member of the Indiana League Governmental Affairs Committee, a past board member of the League and a member of several committees and task forces for the League and for the National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors. He is a member of the Credit Union Executive Society (CUES) and is a past member of the National Youth Involvement Board. Collier is a member of the Indiana Credit Union Hall of Fame and a recipient of the Indiana League’s Professional Achievement Award.
John McKenzie has served as president of the Indiana Credit Union League since 1990. Prior to that, he held other senior management positions with the Indiana League Services Corporation (Servicecorp) and Indiana’s corporate credit union during the 1980s. He is recognized by Hoosier credit unions as an effective leader at a League whose affiliates represent more than 95 percent of the credit union members and assets statewide. Under his leadership, Servicecorp created its Credit Union Card Center division which has offered credit and debit card processing to credit unions for decades. Currently, Credit Union Card Center provides credit and debit card processing services to 117 credit unions with more than 340,000 cardholders. McKenzie also played a key role in establishing Indiana’s shared branching network beginning in the early 1990s. That network currently serves credit unions representing more than two-thirds of Indiana’s 2.2 million credit union members. He was also instrumental in overseeing the growth of the League’s group health insurance plan which currently serves 3,500 credit union employees and dependents statewide. He has also made it a high priority to engage elected officials and others in conversations about credit unions, and he is recognized by legislators as a valuable advocate for Indiana credit unions. He is a past board member of the Credit Union National Association.
