Credit Union Student Choice to Host National Financial Aid Webinar

WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 21, 2013) Like a traditional rite of spring, millions of financial aid award letters will soon be hitting the mailboxes of parents and college-bound students. To help families decode the confusing lingo often found in these letters and assist them in making informed financial decisions, Credit Union Student Choice and its nearly 250 partner credit unions will be offering a free national webinar on Wednesday, April 17th at 7:00 p.m. ET.

“Many students and parents have questions about their award letters and may not fully grasp their options,” said Melissa Hunt, VP of Client Relations and Education for Credit Union Student Choice. “These letters can be extremely confusing and actually mislead students and parents about costs and aid options. Borrower education is at the core of the Student Choice program, and this webinar is an excellent opportunity to clarify the issues and arm consumers with the knowledge they need to make smart financial decisions regarding college.”

The presentation will be led by Hunt, an expert in financial aid who’s presented hundreds of on-site college planning seminars at Student Choice partner credit unions. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of common types of financial aid and learn what to consider when comparing award letters, how to determine their true need, and how to appeal an award letter.

“We’re very excited to offer this event for a second consecutive year,” added Hunt. “Last year more than 500 people attended the webinar and hundreds more accessed an archived version in the weeks following. This event not only delivers valuable information to attendees, but also reinforces the role of credit unions as trusted providers that are truly working in the best interests of members.”

Students and parents may register for the event online via the co-branded website of any Student Choice partner credit union or at www.studentchoice.org.
