Atlantic Financial FCU Names New President/CEO

HUNT VALLEY, MD – Atlantic Financial Federal Credit Union’s Board of Directors appointed Matthew P. Piazza, CPA, as the new President and CEO effective March 7, 2013.

Before accepting the position, Piazza headed the finance department as Vice President of Finance at AFFCU. He prepared monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, managed the credit union’s investment portfolio, as well as updated policies and procedures. Piazza oversaw AFFCU in two credit union mergers by spearheading all accounting processes. Additionally, he serves on AFFCU’s Asset Liability Management Committee.

Richard T. Webb, long-time President and CEO of AFFCU, announced his plans to retire by March 2013.

“When I hired Matt to head the finance department, I saw the opportunity for him to be our future President and CEO. I also recommended him to the Board of Directors as a candidate,” said Webb.

As of December 2012, the Board of Directors formed a search committee to fill Webb’s position. The committee considered candidates internally and externally, but felt that Piazza was the best choice for AFFCU moving forward.

“We are confident that Matt will provide the leadership that will be needed for AFFCU in the coming years. His clear direction is in alignment with AFFCU’s strategic plan and we look forward to his energy and enthusiasm as he takes on this role to continue to best serve our membership,” said AFFCU’s Board Chairman Michael Spencer.

Previously, Piazza was an Assurance Manager at CliftonLarsonAllen LLP (then named Clifton Gunderson LLP) auditing credit unions across the country with assets as large as $21 billion. Piazza is a certified public accountant and new board member of Financial Managers Society – Maryland Chapter. Piazza graduated from Salisbury University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Finance.

Piazza and his wife, Jess, welcomed their first child in January.
