NAFCU’s 2013 Regulatory Compliance School Kicks Off

WASHINGTON, DC - Credit union compliance officers from across the country are gaining a solid understanding of compliance rules and issues this week during the National Association of Federal Credit Unions’ (NAFCU) Regulatory Compliance School.  The annual event is taking place at the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center, National Harbor, Md., March 18-23.

“Each year, NAFCU’s Regulatory Compliance School provides attendees with a solid understanding of the regulations and laws governing credit unions’ operations so that they are prepared for new compliance challenges,” said Steve Van Beek, NAFCU director of regulatory compliance. “The School is vital training for any compliance officer who needs to know how to navigate the progressively challenging regulatory landscape.”

Van Beek and other members of NAFCU’s highly regarded regulatory compliance team, JiJi Bahhur, Bernadette Clair and Michael Coleman, compliance counsels, will be presenters at the conference. Fred R. Becker, Jr., NAFCU president and CEO and Carrie Hunt, general counsel/vice president of regulatory affairs will also be offering remarks.

The curriculum includes sessions on the legislative and regulatory process, the Federal Credit Union Act, National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) supervision and exams, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) mortgage rules, credit union bylaws, share insurance, the E-SIGN Act, fair lending requirements, Bank Secrecy Act, Regulations D, E, CC, Z and more.

In addition to NAFCU staff, presenters include Suzanne Garwood, Venable, LLP; Judy Graham, NCUA; Andy Keeney, Kaufman & Canoles; Mitchell Klein, Police and Fire FCU; Devon Lyon, State Department FCU; David Reed, Reed and Jolly, PLLC; Barry Stricklin, Tower FCU; and Rusty Vellek, Transportation FCU.

Throughout the week, attendees will have the option to take four exams to earn the prestigious NAFCU Certified Compliance Officer (NCCO) designation.

Attendees will also receive a free copy of NAFCU’s 2013 Credit Union Compliance GPS and access to NAFCU’s new mortgage rule Scope & Applicability Charts.

NAFCU also offers a self-study program which allows anyone interested in obtaining a solid foundation of the compliance issues facing credit unions to take the four exams required to earn the NCCO designation. NAFCU offers advanced hands-on compliance training during its 2013 Regulatory Compliance Seminar, October 22-25 in Nashville, Tenn.
