DEER PARK, TX (January 2013) – Twelve finalists from Shell FCU’s 75th Anniversary campaign gathered on Saturday, January 26th for grand prize giveaways – a shiny red Camaro and three cash prizes of $7k, $5k and $2k. Each of the twelve finalists qualified for the grand prizes by winning a monthly drawing in 2012.
In the order of their eligibility each finalist chose a key and tried their luck at starting the Camaro. The November finalist, Charles Martin, sat in the driver’s seat, shut the door with confidence and started the engine. He immediately glanced upward in prayer as the crowd cheered on. Charles took a few moments to speak and thanked Shell FCU and gave praise to God. He explained he was a pastor at Grace Church and since qualifying in November his parish and friends have been praying for this gift, as they had previously given two cars away to families in need over the past year. Now Charles and his wife, Ashley, felt God was rewarding their family.
Mr. Martin picked the three cash prizes names from the basket naming Sylvia Beaver the $7k cash winner, Guadalupe Morua the $5k cash winner and Theresa Nava the $2k cash winner. Credit Union staff and members, along with representatives from Auto Exam and Norman Frede Chevrolet, celebrated with the winners at the special event. Shell FCU provided free specialty coffees and goodies as pictures were taken with the 75th Anniversary Shell FCU Camaro and the NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster of Fred Hanssen. Hanssen, a Norwegian, won the 2011 FIA European Championship and will be racing in the US in 2013 on the NHRA circuit under the guidance of multi-time Champion Crew Chief Will Hanna, a Deer Park native.
