Altura Staffers Assist at Academic Super Quiz

RIVERSIDE, CA (Feb. 12, 2013) – For the fourth year in a row, employees from Altura Credit Union assisted at the Riverside County Academic Decathlon held recently. Altura’s 11 staffers served as proctors during the “Super Quiz” portion of the event held Feb. 2.

More than 180 students in teams from 19 high schools competed in the 30th Annual Academic Decathlon, which is sponsored by the Riverside County Office of Education.  The event components include writing essays, delivering prepared andimpromptu speeches, being interviewed by judges and participating in the Super Quiz.

During the Super Quiz, students answer questions that are read aloud on a provided score sheet.  As volunteer proctors, the Altura volunteers checked the answers for accuracy and kept score.  The Super Quiz is the only portion of the two-day academic event that is open to the public.

Elsinore High School won the Super Quiz, while West Valley High School won the overall Decathlon title for the fifth year in a row.  The West Valley team will go on to compete at the state level in March.
