Funds will go to Children’s Miracle Network hospitals and to Superstorm Sandy relief
Between November 1 and December 31, 2012, Patelco Credit Union raised $30,792 for CU4Kids and the Children’s Miracle Network through close to 7,000 member and employee donations. The money will go to the UC Davis Children’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital and Research Center in Oakland to fund equipment, programs, and research to support all children, regardless of illness, injury, or the family’s ability to pay.
The fundraising effort raised money through the sale of $1 snowmen; individual donation amounts ranged from $1 to $2,386. “We are very excited about the amount of money we raised and we couldn’t have done this without the hard work of our employees and donations from both employees and members,” said Patelco President and CEO Ken Burns, who serves as the co-chair of the CU4Kids Advisory Board for the Children’s Hospital & Research Center Oakland. “Here at Patelco we pride ourselves on our commitment to improving our surrounding communities and this donation drive was a way to give back.”
Patelco will hold a check presentation ceremony on January 16 at their corporate office during which Burns will present the check to Tina Evans, the director of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals at Children’s Hospital & Research Center Oakland.
In addition to fundraising for local hospitals, Patelco also launched a CaféGive Facebook app to raise money for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief to aid Superstorm Sandy relief efforts on the East Coast. $6,535 was raised. Patelco added an additional $5,000 to bring the total donation amount to $11,535.
Patelco will continue its focus on charitable giving and community involvement in 2013 with additional programs devoted to youth financial literacy, elder financial protection and other various community outreach drives, campaigns and volunteer opportunities.
