Shell FCU Volunteer Team Helps for the Holidays

January 2013 Deer Park, TX - The Furthering Community Unity (FCU) Team powered by Shell Federal Credit Union concluded 2012 assisting various organizations during the holiday season.

In November the FCU Team hosted their annual Cell Phones for Soldiers phone drive for the 4th year in a row. Cell Phones for Soldiers is a nonprofit organization that allows the community to donate old/unused cell phones to be turned into $25 calling cards to be given to soldiers overseas.  This year the drive donations were equivalent to $1675.

Over the holidays the Shell FCU employees donated $20 to wear jeans on Thursday throughout December. Donations benefited the annual Boys’ & Girls’ Harbor Christmas Party. With a goal of $2500, Shell FCU employees accepted the challenge and brought in $2600. The FCU Team purchased at least 2 items for each of the 64 children and multiple board games for the cottages in which the children reside.

Shell FCU believes the foundation of any successful community is dependent on the willingness of its local population to become involved in its overall success. We also believe instilling the spirit of volunteerism is one of the most important elements to a long, happy and successful life.

The FCU Team powered by Shell FCU was created to provide opportunities for giving back in our communities and teaching the value of social responsibility in a fun team setting. Since its inception the FCU Team has raised over $50,000 and donated over 5,000 hours to benefit many charitable events.
