Georgia United Credit Union Partners with UGA to offer Free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

ATHENS, GA (January 8, 2013)  Georgia United Credit Union is partnering again this year with the Internal Revenue Service and the College of Family and Consumer Sciences of the University of Georgia to provide the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

The VITA program extends FREE tax return assistance to individuals and families with low to moderate income (who do not have depreciable property or extensive stock or asset transactions.) This year’s VITA site will be located at Georgia United Credit Union’s 190 Gaines School Road branch.   Sessions will be available on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings, beginning January 29 through April 12, and on Saturdays, February 2 through April 13. Georgia United Board Member and VITA Volunteer Tom Cochran of Athens shared the following information, “Last year, our efforts assisted more than 684 individuals and families with their tax returns got federal refunds totaling more than $864,534 and $146,431 in state refunds!”
