RIVERDALE, UT—December 20, 2012—America First Credit Union recognized four volunteers—Barney Chapman, David Hadley, Cathy Person, and Lue McCann—for their valuable service to its membership during a special ceremony in their honor.
“The success of America First is reliant on the support, hard work and generosity of our volunteers,” said John Lund, America First President and CEO. “Their sacrifices and contributions on our committees and Board of Directors have benefited thousands of our members and we thank them for their continued service.”
Barney Chapman, a Pleasant View resident, was honored for his five years of volunteer service to America First, having been on the Board of Directors since 2007.
Chapman’s credit union career encompassed service in almost every department of America First, having started as a part-time teller in 1968 to his retirement as Senior Vice President, Chief of Staff in 2005. He is still an active credit union lobbyist and serves on the executive and legislative committees as Vice Chairman of the Ogden-Weber Chamber of Commerce.
He attended Weber State University at night during his early years at America First and graduated in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology. He also served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves and retired with the rank of colonel.
After 25 years of service in the Boy Scout program, Chapman earned the prestigious Silver Beaver Award. He was on the Board of Trustees at Weber State for two, four-year terms, two of which he was a chairman. He is also a Board member for the Ogden-Weber Applied Technology College; Top of Utah Military Affairs Committee; and is a Board member of the Utah Defense Alliance and Hill Air Force Base Heritage Museum.
David Hadley was recognized by America First for his five years of service on the Loan Review Committee. An Ogden citizen, he graduated from Weber High, then Utah State University in 1967 with a bachelor’s degree in Fishery Biology.
Wanting to keep his family close, he worked for the Internal Revenue Services (IRS) in Ogden until he retired. His volunteer efforts also include over 20 years as a Boy Scout leader. Hadley first became acquainted with America First when his dad opened his account in the small trailer branch on Kiesel Avenue.
Since being on the Loan Review Committee, he says he has come to realize that everyone handles their finances differently. Hadley also says he understands there is a wide variety of need, and is grateful that America First is willing to help those who find themselves in difficult situations.
Also a five-year member of America First’s Loan Review Committee, Cathy Person is not interested in slowing down or retiring. She began her career as an elementary school cook, and then worked at Hill Air Force base from 1979 to 2009.
Her roles there included data processing at a GS3 level, key-punch operator and finally a supervisor in the F-16 Aircraft Sustainment Group, which produces and sustains the worldwide deployment of over 3,000 F16 fighter aircraft for U.S. and foreign military forces. She retired at a GS-13 level. In addition to volunteering at America First, Person is currently employed full-time with ES3 in Legend Hills and resides in Mountain Green.
She says she enjoys working with military personnel and has a great amount of respect for the individuals and families who sacrifice so much for their country. In her service to America First members, she says she finds so much satisfaction knowing she’s making a difference helping people.
Lue McCann received recognition for his 45 years of volunteer service to
