New North Dakota Senator to serve on the Senate Banking Committee.
Bismarck ND - Credit Union Association of the Dakotas (CUAD) leadership attended a meeting with U.S. Senator-Elect Heidi Heitkamp at her campaign office in Mandan, ND last Friday, December 14th. The new North Dakota senator could prove to be a powerful advocate for credit unions in Washington, as one of her committee assignments will be to serve on the Senate Banking Committee.
Heitkamp, the former North Dakota Attorney General, is very familiar with the financial cooperative model and credit unions, and CUAD legislative advocates took the opportunity to discuss several issues that may impact credit unions during the 113th Congress, such as the tax status, increasing regulatory burdens, and the benefits of increasing the MBL limits.
Robbie Thompson, CUAD President/CEO said “We look forward to working with Senator-Elect Heitkamp, and we are pleased to see she is going to be a member of the Senate Banking committee. She knows and understands credit unions - especially the issues facing small and rural area credit unions. We are confident that she will always be willing to listen to our concerns."
Headquartered in Bismarck, CUAD is the trade association serving credit unions in the Dakotas. CUAD serves 73 credit unions in North and South Dakota, serving over 406,000 members, with assets in excess of $4.6 billion. For more information about CUAD visit our website at www.cuad.coop
