To support local communities in need this winter, Affinity Plus is stepping up to help
ST. PAUL, MINN. (Dec. 6, 2012) – Recognizing that many communities are in need of support this winter, Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union has once again partnered with Special Olympics Minnesota and Second Harvest Heartland to help raise money for their efforts throughout Minnesota. In the months of December and January, Affinity Plus will accept donations, both monetary and in the form of members’ Participation Rewards Points, at branch locations. Members can also donate food and household items that will go directly to the Second Harvest Heartland.
Since 2003, Affinity Plus has partnered with Special Olympics Minnesota and last year alone raised more than $3,000 to support more than 7,100 athletes with special needs. The partnership with Special Olympics Minnesota also includes voluntary branch participation in the Polar Bear Plunge, an event presented by Minnesota law enforcement. Affinity Plus branches participating in the event assemble a team of employees who commit to taking the plunge in order to raise money for their team, which is then donated to Special Olympics Minnesota. Last year, several branches across Minnesota participated in the Plunge.
Second Harvest Heartland, the Upper Midwest’s largest hunger relief organization, has partnered with Affinity Plus since 2004. Last year, Affinity Plus donated more than $13,000 and 1,500 pounds of food and household items that were used to help Minnesota families and communities in need.
“Over the past several years, it is our members, employees, and all those who have participated in these fundraisers that are the real heroes; Affinity Plus has simply opened the door and provided a convenient way to give back. What it comes down to is that we are committed to changing the lives of people in our communities, and these two charities really give us the opportunity to do just that. We take great pride in our partnerships with Second Harvest Heartland and Special Olympics Minnesota, and are excited about what we can do for both charities this year,” states Kyle L. Markland, President and CEO.
Members of Affinity Plus and the public may stop in at any branch location to donate money, Participation Rewards Points, or food and household items. Donations will be accepted from December 3 through January 31.
