NAFCU Board Meets Today with Cordray and Matz

Washington, DC - The National Association of Federal Credit Union's (NAFCU) board of directors has meetings today with Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Director Richard Corday and National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Chairman Debbie Matz to discuss credit union issues.

“As a critical part of our nation’s economic foundation, credit unions are steadfast in their commitment to advancing our country’s road to prosperity. To that end, we welcome the opportunity to sit down at the table and discuss key issues, concerns and solutions to enable credit unions to better achieve this goal,” said Fred Becker, NAFCU president and CEO.

The discussions will take place in separate meetings, with the meeting with Chairman Matz this morning and Director Cordray this afternoon.

Specifically, in its meeting with Chairman Matz, NAFCU will underscore its continuing concern for greater transparency with the share insurance fund, as well as the bottom line impact of ongoing rulemaking on credit unions.

Qualified mortgages, remittances and the small credit union exemption will be top agenda items when NAFCU meets with CFPB Director Cordray.  NAFCU has written the agency extensively on qualified mortgages and remittances asking for flexibility to allow credit unions to best serve their members with these products. This meeting will also afford NAFCU the opportunity to present its concerns regarding the impact of the CFPB on small credit unions.
