MADISON, Wis. — The Credit Union Executives Society building, in Madison, Wis., has been named The Fred Johnson Center for Leadership Development in honor of its long-time president and CEO, Fred Johnson, who is retiring on December 31, 2012.
In a ceremony to commemorate the event, CUES’ board chair Teresa Freeborn, president and CEO, Xceed Financial Credit Union, El Segundo, Calif., said, “I'm so pleased to have the privilege of being a part of this official ceremony honoring Fred. His contributions to CUES will leave a lasting legacy, so naming the building in his honor is truly a fitting tribute. Under his command, CUES has grown in many ways, including the implementation of CUES’ flagship CEO Institute, enhanced director education offerings and new membership structures. When Fred began working at CUES in 1989, there were 3,000 members; today there are more than 10,000. In addition, revenue has tripled since 1989.”
“I am humbled and flattered beyond words to be honored in this way,” said Johnson. “CUES has been an important part of my life for 23 years, and I’ll never forget our incredible and dedicated staff who supported me and our members over this period. My name may be on the building, but it is they who built it.”
