Credit Union Employees Pledge More than $125,000 to Local Nonprofits

(N. CHARLESTON, S.C.) – Nov. 28, 2012 – South Carolina Federal Credit Union employees pledged $125,242 to 10 local nonprofits and South Carolina Federal’s Employee Relief Fund through the South Carolina Federal Credit Union Foundation.

This year, South Carolina Federal established South Carolina Federal Credit Union Foundation to simplify the credit union’s fundraising process and provide a Life Simplified™ method for employees to make and keep track of tax-deductible donations.

Ten nonprofits will directly benefit from the dollars employees pledged through the Foundation, and by a pool of matching funds committed by the credit union: American Red Cross, Carolina Lowcountry Chapter; American Red Cross, Columbia Region; Lowcountry Food Bank; Lowcountry Orphan Relief; MUSC Children’s Hospital; Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital; Trident United Way; United Way of the Midlands; Georgetown County United Way and Water Missions International. Additionally, employees had the option to give to South Carolina Federal’s Employee Relief Fund, which provides financial assistance to employees who have experienced a catastrophic event.  Employees can contribute to these organizations through the Foundation, either with one-time pledges or recurring payroll-deductions.

“I’m excited about the Foundation and all of the opportunities it presents for our employees,” said Scott Woods, President and CEO, South Carolina Federal. “Our employees continue to amaze me with the number of hours they spend volunteering in the community and raising money for the various nonprofit organizations we support each year.”

South Carolina Federal employees presented the total amounts raised to the supported nonprofits at a wrap-up event on November 28.
