Warminster, PA (November 16, 2012) - On Tuesday November 13th, Freedom Credit Union Training Specialist Jennifer Moore was named the Philadelphia Chapter of Credit Unions Youth Ambassador for 2013. In the running with one other representative from a local credit union, Moore’s presentation to the Chapter focused on Generation Y and their effect on the future of credit unions. She said, “We need to keep spreading the credit union philosophy by educating the younger generation that they are eligible to join a credit union.” Moore will now compete for the State Title this spring in Hershey at the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association annual meeting.
About the Credit Union Youth Ambassador of Pennsylvania Contest
The Pennsylvania Credit Union Association (PCUA) developed the Credit Union Youth Ambassador of Pennsylvania Contest in 1976 to help young people learn about the history, philosophy, and operation of credit unions. Participants gain experience in meeting and interacting with other people, and public speaking — skills that bring career opportunities. For more than 30 years, the contest has been opening doors to credit union careers.
The Youth Ambassador promotes youth marketing, as well as the benefits of the contest. They speak at Association-sponsored education sessions and leadership conferences, and attend chapter meetings and other special events. The state winner also serves as a role model to encourage young people to participate in their credit unions.
Candidates are first selected by their Credit Unions at the Chapter level and the winner of that goes on to the State Final, where they are judged on credit union knowledge, ability to communicate, personality, and professional appearance. They are given a written exam and then asked to present a two-minute speech on a pre-selected credit union topic. The first-place winner receives a $1,000 cash prize. The first and second alternates receive $750 and $500 respectively.
